Questions and answers about CompeTE+

All PhD students, postdocs and research staff at HTWK Leipzig are invited to take part in the CompeTE+ courses. Some courses are also open to advanced Master’s students who are considering pursuing a PhD.

As we collaborate with the University of Leipzig, the German Research Centre for Environmental Sciences (UFZ) and the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences in Zwickau, members of these institutions are also welcome to take part in our programme.

Most events have a limit on the number of participants.

If this is the first time you are registering for one of our events, please use the form for first-timeregistration. For all subsequent registrations, you can use the short form for repeatregistration.

The courses take various forms; in particular, lectures and workshops are offered.

A lecture may take place over the course of an afternoon, during which you can gather information and ask questions. In a workshop, the stated aim is for you to learn new skills and abilities, and to practise and internalise them. Experience shows that, depending on the scope of the course content, a duration of one to two days is suitable for this. For some events, follow-up sessions are also designed to explore the content in greater depth.

To ensure you feel at home in our courses and have enough energy for long workshops, coffee, tea and biscuits are provided!

As a rule, you do not need to make any special preparations. However, there are some workshops, such as ‘Academic Writing’ or ‘Assessment Centre’, for which you’ll need to bring documents you’ve written yourself. You’ll find details of this in the event leaflet. To ensure the workshop is a success, it’s important that you set aside time for this preparation.

Attendance at the events is free of charge.

If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so that those on the waiting list can take your place. Please send us a brief email to cancel your registration for the event.

If you are absent three times in a row without a valid reason, we will unfortunately have to exclude you from attending the course for one semester.

At the end of our courses, we always ask you to complete an evaluation form. We use your feedback to work with the lecturers to further develop the courses for you.

You are also welcome to provide us with feedback at any time by telephone or email.

If you have successfully attended at least 75 per cent of the course, we will be happy to provide you with a certificate of attendance. You can use this to demonstrate your extracurricular commitment to an employer or in a job application.

If you have completed courses from at least four different modules totalling 100 study units, we will issue you with a certificate on request. Please feel free to contact us.

Yes. To ensure you can attend CompeTE+ courses at your leisure, even in the late afternoon, childcare is available for your child. If you require childcare, simply indicate this on the form when you register.

On our GradZ website, we provide information about our workshops, meetings for PhD students at HTWK Leipzig, as well as interesting activities and external events.

The CompeTE+ programme is repeated every six semesters. If you can’t find a course you’re looking for, please ask us whether it’s offered in another semester. You’re also welcome to suggest completely new courses – we’d love to hear your ideas!
