Enrolment at HTWK Leipzig

PhD candidates at HTWK Leipzig have the option of enrolling as PhD students at HTWK Leipzig whilst pursuing their PhD. Enrolment is independent of the source of funding for the PhD, such as an employment contract with HTWK Leipzig.

Key requirements for enrolment are the supervision and completion of the collaborative PhD project at HTWK Leipzig, as well as the registration of the PhD project at a partner university (inclusion on the list of PhD students at the relevant faculty).

You can apply for enrolment at any time in writing at theStudent Registry. This is not tied to the usual enrolment deadlines. To do so, please submit the documents listed below to the Student Registry and pay the current semester fee. The processing time is approximately two weeks.

The following documents must be submitted to theStudent Registry at HTWK Leipzig:

• Application for enrolment
  (available on request from the Graduate Centre or the Student Administration Office)
• Curriculum vitae in tabular form with a photograph
• Copy of your diploma or master’s degree certificate (for graduates of other universities: an officially certified copy of your diploma or master’s degree certificate)
• Agreement on supervision of the doctoral programme at HTWK Leipzig
• Endorsement by the Faculty Council of HTWK Leipzig for the cooperative doctoral project
• Certificate of enrolment from the university where the doctoral programme is formally being undertaken, or other evidence of the commencement and progress of the doctoral programme from the relevant university or institution authorised to award doctorates (e.g. confirmation from the doctoral committee of inclusion on the doctoral register of the relevant faculty)
• Proof of health insurance

You will be issued with an HTWK Card (student ID card, term ticket, library card, access to buildings, and an electronic wallet for use in canteens and cafeterias) and, as a member of the university, are covered by statutory accident insurance (SGB VII). In addition, in consultation with your PhD supervisor, you can gain access to certain necessary university facilities and be provided with an HTWK email address.

For each subsequent semester in which you wish to remain enrolled, you must pay the current semester fee during the re-enrolment period and update your HTWK Card at the validation station.

Eine Immatrikulation an der kooperierenden Universität ist ebenfalls möglich und unter Umständen sogar verpflichtend. Bitte klären Sie diesbezügliche Fragen individuell mit dem Promotionsamt der kooperierenden Universität/Fakultät.

Erfolgt eine gleichzeitige Immatrikulation an der Universität Leipzig, brauchen Sie den Semesterbeitrag an das Studierendenwerk nur einmal entrichten. Bitte reichen Sie in diesem Fall die aktuelle Studienbescheinigung der Universität Leipzig bei Antragstellung an der HTWK Leipzig mit ein.

Please do not forget to inform the Graduate Centre once you have completed or, where applicable, withdrawn from your PhD programme, and to stop paying the semester fee for the following semester. Enrolment is valid until you have completed your PhD (successful defence of your thesis, or, where applicable, until you have received your PhD certificate).
